Best way to get home to my high school if you stay after school?

I would try for a sport this year but I have no way to get home from school if I miss the school bus. There is no city bus service and Google Maps says it would take 41 minutes walk. Could it be shortened to 20 minutes if I ran (1 mile in 10 minutes?) Google Maps also suggested a bike that would take 15 minutes. But there is no way that my mother let me ride on an interstate bypass (that along the way.) Is there a service for people like me who could take me after school? Or maybe I could carpool? Walk 40 minutes seems a bit harsh. And there is not, after school buses in my school for now with the economy. Can not drive for a year either. Tell me what you think. Thank you.
