Relocating to Washington DC – The best place to live for single woman in mid-20's?

I plan to go to DC work (current employer remain the same) and I wonder what is the best neighborhoods are seeking an apartment. I like artsy, cultural areas. Would like somewhere with other young professionals, and still be close to the political scene. I also want to sell my car and not having to worry about, then it should close the metro and / or other public transportation. I want your opinion! Thank you!

I lived in DC three times and do not own cars. DC is one of those cities, as you probably discovered that this is not a difficult thing to live without a car. North Arlington is a great place, especially Courthouse / Clarendon / Ballston. They are all neighborhoods on the orange line metro and just minutes from DC. They are safe and have things like shops, restaurants and grocery stores nearby. I too am a big fan of downtown Silver Spring, MD. It's just outside of DC proper and the Metro Red Line. It is a downtown small, but full of shops, restaurants and shops. If you want to live in DC and you want something bohemian, I recommend Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, or Columbia Heights. They are all on the subway lines (Adams Morgan is a little walk, but there is a metro station there) and many options for accommodation. Of the three, Dupont Circle is my favorite. Have fun in DC!
