What would you recommend … a hybrid or a road bike?
I am a complete beginner looking to buy a decent bike that I would use on roads to get in shape and also commute to work. There are rare occasions where I could take it on the slopes of mud, but not often. I Claud Butler Chinook or Levante (two road bikes) or a Claude Butler Urban 100 (hybrid bike). Apart from the (obvious road bikes being faster and unsuitable for off road and hybrids being abit of everything) What is the difference? And who would you recommend?? Any advice on what would really Popular! Thank you!
I started the same way, and went for a hybrid with smooth tires (slick). They much less rolling resistance of studs. Your bike shop should make the switch, or you can do yourself for very little $. I hybrid used by several turns away (from Boston to New York) and not just fine. Hybrids are a good way to start. I strongly dislike using my road bike for commuting. Road bikes get beat in the streets of the city with potholes and debris. Sooner or later, a rim is bent. Of course, they can not do the mud or trails. That being said, once I tried a road bike for trips away, I never went back. The road bikes are lighter, faster and require less work per mile. I recently acted as 7 years old hybrid, he got served well, but I had to leave the garage by my four road bikes. (That's another story.)
